John Deere 300 garden tractor is a two-wheel drive (2WD) power equipment model that was launched as a part of the 300 series of the company. The 300 series was the first lineup of John Deere’s lawn and garden tractor that used a diesel-powered, Kohler K-series engine, capable of generating 16 horsepower. This model is not to be confused with the two-wheel drive industrial tractor from the same company with the same name, which produced from 1965 to 1973.

The 300s were constructed in Wisconsin, USA. It had quite a short production life – which lasted only from 1975 to 1977. Two years after the initial production, it was replaced by the John Deere 316 tractor that had even shorter production period in 1978 for one year only. That being said, the John Deere 300 garden tractor was rather a versatile and reliable model.

As a replacement for the John Deere 140 that had a notably longer production year for seven years, there were a lot of its attachments suitable for the 300. Despite sharing plenty of same components, John Deere 300 garden tractor brought significant amounts of upgrades regarding the core engine and the styling.

This specific model of tractor was equipped with 2 spool hydraulic valve, instead of 1 or 3 spool system sported on the JD 140. It also featured 4×2 two-wheel drive (2WD) chassis, continuously variable transmission (CVT), and hydrostatic transmission. The 700 pounds machine came with a fuel tank capacity of 4.5 gallons (17 L or 3.7 imperial gallons), open operator station (OOS) platform, and manual steering.

In terms of the engine, it used Kohler K341AQS – a 0.6 L (35.9 cubic inch or 588 cm2), 1-cylinder gasoline engine. Its cylinder bore was measured at 3.75 inches (95.3 mm) and its piston stroke was measured at 3.25 inches (82.5 mm). This machine generated optimum output power of 16 horsepower (11.9 kW or 16.9 PS) @ 3500 rpm.

You can find and use several types of attachments for the John Deere 300 garden tractor. First attachment is the 46 inches (1160 mm) mid-mounted mower decks with three blades. Second is the 54 inches (1370 mm) front-mounted blade. Third is the 48 inches (1210 mm) front-mounted snow blower.
