The Massey Ferguson 135 tractor, or also known as MF135, was a tractor model unit made by Massey Ferguson. It was the initial manufacturing model in the lineup of MF100, following the MF35. The production period took place in 1964 to 1975, until it was replaced by MF235. Arguably, this model is the most sought- after second-hand tractor unit nowadays, beside Massey Ferguson 165.

As mentioned before, the production years of Massey Ferguson 135 tractor spanned for 11 years. During the last production year, its price sat at around nearly $4,400. The manufacturer put out several hundred thousand units. Even until these days in the 21st century, it is still plausibly the most popular unit model in the market. It is not hard to wonder why – the MF135 are really affordable and amongst the most powerful ones in the range of 30 – 40 HP tractors. It also has simple mechanical construction and provides great reliability. Moreover, the familiarity factor makes it a favorite between the farmers.

There are a lot of claims stating that the Massey Ferguson 135 tractor is amongst the best tractor this manufacturer ever produced. However, a lot of people as well have emphasized the importance in choosing the right engine. MF 135 was provided with a Perkins engine (that used gas or diesel as the fuel) or Continental engine (that used gas as the fuel).

Most of the Massey Ferguson 135 tractor units you’d see probably use 2.5 L Perkins 3-cylinder diesel engines that can yield 45 Horsepower. It was a 2-wheel drive unit, with mechanical clutch and 6 forward plus 2 reserve gearboxes.

From 1970 and onwards, the later versions were equipped with 8-speed transmission. They also used 4 forward plus 1 reserve gearbox. They came with options of multi-power as well with hydraulic clutch, and 12 forward plus 4r reverse gearbox.

Either way, these units receive so much popularity across the world, mainly because of their simple design that’s easy to maintain and repair. These days, it is not so hard to find one in an affordable price range, even if they come in disassembled units and use worldwide shipping. You can easily find inexpensive replacement parts resources, with better manufacturing compared to the models prior to war.

Although it has been several decades since the Massey Ferguson 135 tractor is no longer being produced, it still seems to be a treasure and important equipment for farmers in various countries.

Familiarity factor, as stated before, is one of the main reasons why the model is still popular. Plenty of farmers remember how to operate them back then. There are also cases where it becomes a special unit that’s sought by obscure tractor collectors.

All in all, there is no doubt that the Massey Ferguson 135 tractor was well-designed and manufactured pieces. More than a standard tractor unit, they offered extreme reliability.
