Farmall M Row-Crop tractor was manufactured from 1939 to 1953 by the International Harvester as a part of its “letter series” and as the successor of Farmall F-30. The production was based in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout the production years, the series was gradually upgraded with new model numbers, such as M 400, M 500, Super M-TA, and Super M, even though at the core, they were all still the same machine. The productions for all M versions were wrapped up in 1958.

The M was designed by Raymond Loewy. It was amongst the most produced series with more than 270,140 units manufactured in a span of 13 years.

Farmall M Row-Crop tractor came with a C248 4-cylinder overhead valve International Harvester engine. It had a 6V electrical system and 4,060 cm3 (248 inch3) displacement. In total, there were six gear transmissions, which consisted of 5F and 1R gears.

Alongside Farmall H and its versions, Farmall M tractor was the smaller one between two primary row crop tractors manufactured by the company from late 30s to the early 50s. However, the same implements were still suitable. As supposedly, it also used modular design to allow replacement and disassemble of the parts as a unit.

All of the versions under Farmall M Row-Crop tractor are fueled by distillate and gasoline. They all came with hydraulic lifts. The centerline of standard models was equipped with narrow front wheels. There was an adjustable option for the rear wheels, from 130 cm (52 inches) to 220 cm (88 inches) to accommodate different widths of row. Another available adjustable option was the extended axle, which could be upgraded to 250 cm (100 inches) width.

Farmall M Row-Crop tractor was not only manufactured in Rock Island, Illinois, USA – but also in Australia (by the AM) and in Britain (by BM/BMD). Compared to the models produced in North America with tricycle set-ups that were popular for the farmers in the U.S. and Canada, they primarily used wide front axles. The productions for the British model units were centered in Doncaster, from 1948 to 1953. Meanwhile, the production for the Australian model units was based in Geelong, from 1949 to 1954.
